The Artistic Director, Angela Carter, started dancing at the age of 5 at the Alabama Dance Theatre under the direction of Kitty Seale and Haynes Owens. She received her BA in Dance from The University of Alabama under the direction of Edie Barnes and Cornelius Carter and an MA in Dance from Florida State University under the direction of Patty Phillips and Russell Sandifer. Ms. Carter interned with New York Theatre Ballet in New York, NY under the direction of Diana Byer in 2008. She was honored to assist Gus Solomons, Jr. in a Dancing in the Streets Project and trained with well-known New York choreographers/artists while living in New York. Due to the guidance and professional training from these marvelous instructors in their own right, she has been selected to perform in many lead roles in productions such as Nutcracker, Giselle, Don Quixote, and other independent artists' works. Ms. Carter holds a valid Alabama K-12 teaching certificate in Dance and is also a freelance dance artist. Angela Carter is married to Rev. Richard Antonio Carter and is the stepmom to a beautiful 19-year-old young lady. She is an active member of the Alabama Dance Council. Ms. Carter has written and been awarded many grants to enhance dance learning and bring dance programs to underserved communities for students state-wide through the Alabama State Department of Education (AAEI), Alabama State Council on the Arts: Arts in Education, and The Alabama State Council on the Arts: Performing Arts Grants. This is her 15th year teaching classical dance. The joy for the Art of Dance is Mrs. Carter's goal to instill in every student/dancer she trains.
